Geophysical Methods and Applications

It is really important to choose correct geophysical method to achieve the project objective. Geophysical methods or techniques are designed to exploit one or more of the physical properties of a target feature that is in contrast with its host environment.

Choose Geophysical Methods Correctly

Inappropriate geophysical methods can lead to failure in detecting or  image the targets. Therefore, understanding which methods are suitable for what we want to find  are really important.

Schematic diagram below shows summary of geophysical methods with appropriate geological and hydro-geological targets.

Resistivity Survey

Resistivity or Electrical Resistivity survey is best used in hydro-geological studies such as groundwater exploration. But, it also suitable in mapping bedrock or structure, cavities and ground variations.

Seismic Survey

Seismic survey can be refraction, reflection or S-wave (surface wave) seismic. These technique are the best to reveal the geotechnical properties and mapped bedrock profile or structure.

However, they can be used in hydro-geological studies.

Microgravity Survey

Micro-gravity survey is suitable in mapping bedrock profile, cavity and/or void and any variations within the ground.

GPR & EM Survey

GPR & EM (Electromagnetic) survey are very suitable to detect any contrast occurs or present within the ground. They also can be used in hydro-geological studies.
